Adobe Connect 8 Backgrounds

Posted on 1:00 AM by Unknown

In Adobe Connect 8, we introduced a new aspect ratio that allows for optimum viewing. The Adobe Connect meeting interface rescales intelligently to provide optimum viewing experiences for any screen size or resolution.

We’ve received great feedback on this change that enables the product to scale but maintain aspect ratio. At the same time, users who created customized wallpapers for Adobe Connect 7.5 or earlier may have noticed them stretching the original branded appearance. With that in mind, I wanted to share some tips for those who like the ability to customize and brand their Adobe Connect meetings (and also point you to some of our own backgrounds…but more on that later):

- Background file types supported are: JPG, PNG, GIF and SWF.

- The name of the background file should be 50 characters or less.

- The background scales with the size of the meeting client window. Different client views are determined by screen resolution.

- Aspect ratio is always honored, which means the largest dimension dominates so there is never a blank space. Keep in mind, this is what can cause an image to truncate.

- You can use Adobe Illustrator to create a vector-based wallpaper image that scales beautifully at any size. You should save for web and choose SWF as the format. SWF backgrounds are very lightweight but the trick is getting the aspect ratio correct – again, Adobe Connect 8 meetings are no longer of a fixed ratio and, as a result, it may take some tweaking as you go.

- Use a higher resolution when creating pixel-based wallpaper images in Photoshop. You’ll typically achieve better results scaling down than scaling up. We recommend using 1920×1200, which works well – note this means it will scale down on monitors with lower resolutions and scale up on 27″+ monitors. (Bear in mind bitmaps are not supported).

- It’s best to keep the background file size small. The size of the background file impacts required bandwidth and attendees will download this file as part of joining the meeting.

- As a best practice, in large meetings of over 300 participants, hosts should consider removing backgrounds, which saves bandwidth usage and results in a better participant experience for those on slower connections or older computers.

- Adobe Connect 8 offers a larger viewing area so it’s also quite simple to add an additional share pod where you can upload a simple .PPTX with your preferred branding. This looks great, for example, in the upper right-hand corner of an Adobe Connect meeting room. (See image below)

As I alluded earlier, we’ve created some nice Adobe Connect backgrounds ourselves that you can download from the ConnectUsers.com site here and place in your Adobe Connect room (to download, click on the gallery thumbnail image of interest, then right-click on the large image and choose “Save Image As…” from your browser). Backgrounds in Adobe Connect are associated with a particular room only to allow multiple users within an account to brand as they wish.

To change the default background in an Adobe Connect meeting, as a host, go to the top menu.

  1. Choose Meeting > Preferences.

  2. Click upload, then navigate to the desired image. If you haven’t previously added the file to Adobe Connect, click Browse My Computer.
It is important when creating a background to note there is a way to anchor your background to one of the four corners. The default anchor point is the bottom left corner.

For example, if you want to fit a square image in a 4:3 Adobe Connect meeting room window like the sample below, choose a background where you place the logo in the bottom left corner.

Since the anchor default is the bottom left corner, you can see the image fits nicely.

If you find your image is being cropped on the top or side, you can change the anchor point to the corner that best suits your background image. To change the anchor point, in your Adobe Connect Meeting room, go to Meeting > Preferences and you will see a box that looks like the image below. Double click on the preview image (see red rectangle in image below). This will change the anchor point. Watch your image closely after double clicking and you will see the adjustments to the background in the window. Please note anchor points can be similarly changed for SWF files used as background images, however note the preview image is not updated in the preview window.

I hope you’ll find this post helpful and of interest, and that you’ll check out and enjoy the backgrounds I discussed. As always, let us know your thoughts in comments and on Twitter @AdobeConnect and @ConnectSupport.

Adobe Flash Player 4.5 Integration with SAP NetWeaver Gateway

Posted on 12:56 AM by Unknown

One of the important factors for organisations trying to improve their business processes and user experience is the need to access applications across multiple devices. In particular the need to enable fully functioning business apps on mobile devices.

Adobe is making great strides in developing its technologies and partnerships to make this a reality. Last week Adobe announced new plans for further integration with SAP – one of the world’s largest providers of enterprise business solutions. The integration – between the SAP NetWeaver Gateway technology and Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 – will enable the development of rich mobile and Web applications for the enterprise that harness the functionality and power of SAP applications.

This new integration will allow developers to improve front-end experiences and extend SAP business and consumer processes, providing enterprise customers instant reach to critical business data across a broad range of devices and platforms, including Android, BlackBerry Tablet OS and iOS.

If you’re interested in learning more about this announcement take a look at the video below from Adobe’s CEO Shantanu Narayen, plus check out Adobe TV for a design demonstration.

4 Tips for Organizing And Uncluttering your Blog Archive

Posted on 4:37 AM by Unknown
A well organized blog has a tone of respectability as well as being easy for your followers to search through for their favorite articles. Unfortunately, many bloggers let their blog devolve into a mess of discombobulated pieces. In the name of creating order out of the chaos that is far too many blogs, here are my top 10 tips for organizing your blog archive.

1. Use Pages on Your Blog

The most important thing that you can do to improve the fluidity of your blog experience is to add pages. Pages make it much easier to find what people are looking for. Pages don't get lost in the infinite black hole that is an archive; instead, you can put them anywhere you want on your homepage and, actually, on every page within your blog. This means that pages are always vying for attention and will, as a result, get that attention.

2. Use Pages on Your Blog Well

Just having pages doesn't mean that your blog is automatically well organized. It takes work and the intelligent, calculated use of pages. Don't have too many pages and make sure that the information entombed in your pages remains relevant, easy to navigate, and aids, rather than hinders, the organizational process. What this means is that your pages should closely cluster blog posts from related topics.

Think of pages as a tent that you invite a party to discuss a relevant topic; the party is a bunch of like-minded people getting together to make points around a topic or two, but if you invite too many people with opinions that are way out there or have nothing to do with your topic, then the party quickly degenerates into a bunch of arguing back and forth or, worse, inane statements and meaninglessness. You must have vital connections and a vital discourse withing the page. Therefore, group your pages precisely and according to definable topics.

3. Group Posts According to Categories

Pages are nothing without categories. Categories and sub-categories are how you define what a post is about. The most important thing with categories is to find, with each and every blog post, just what it is about and label it accurately. Otherwise, there is not only misdirection but a cornucopia of information. Contrary to popular belief, more information is not automatically better information. Better organized information is better information.

Don't categorize every single blog post independent of all your other blog posts. Find common ground and cut down on excess categories. By cutting down on over-categorizing, you can simplify not only your life (because you are the one who has to fit blog posts into categories) but your blog reader's lives. This is because it makes finding what they are looking for a breeze. Nothing deters curious readers than having to pick their way through an endless, dark labyrinth without so much as a map. Categories are the map. Give your readers a readable and understandable map, with a good legend and a clear key. They aren't looking for bewilderment and chaos; they are looking for a blog! Give them a blog. Otherwise, it is highly likely that they will no longer be your reader.

4. Legitimize your Blog with Linked Sources

Far too much of blogging is nothing more than opinion and pure fluff. The surefire way to counter this is to include your sources. If you have been writing about the economy, throw in a link to an online Wall Street Journal article that talks about either what you have been talking about or something similar. If you get some information from another website, link to that website. If you liked an idea from another blog, don't try to pass it off as your own; link to that blog and build a virtual friendship.

Also, by including links to authoritative and interesting articles outside of your blog, you broaden the minds of your readers by giving them another view on whatever topic you were writing about. Sincere and intelligent readers will treasure the additional information and meaning that you have made possible. Plus, this helps to improve the collective consciousness of our planet. What can be more important than that?

Now, access Facebook without internet

Posted on 1:36 AM by Unknown

Singapore-based software applications developer U2opia Mobile has developed a new application for mobile phones that will allow them to access Facebook on all kind of handsets without paying for a data connection.

'We are using USSD technology, which will enable users to access Facebook without having a GPRS connection on their phones,' said Sumesh Menon, the co-founder and CEO of U2Opia Mobile.

Unstructured Supplementary Data (USSD) is the technology used by telecom players to send alerts to their users that inform them about their balance at the end of call or for sending miss call alerts.

Menon mentioned that though the technology will not provide access to graphics, it will help users send and view updates on their friends' Facebook walls.

'It is like SMS and hence, the load on the network is negligible. We have built some commands through which a user can receive alerts on activity happening on his wall as well post an update,' said Menon.

U2opia launched this application with Indian telecom major Bharti Airtel. While Airtel customers can update their Facebook status through this USSD service free of cost, Rs 1 per day will be applicable for accessing the full-feature application, which enables viewing news feeds, commenting on or liking news feed stories, posting on friends' walls, confirming friend requests, viewing notifications and finding as well as adding friends.

'In the Indian market scenario, where the penetration of smartphones is relatively low and the use of internet on mobiles is primarily limited to key cities, many users are excluded from accessing their Facebook accounts via mobile phones,' said Shireesh Joshi, Bharti Airtel Director -- Marketing, Mobile Services, in a statement.

Airtel users can dial *325# and *fbk# for non-Qwerty mobile handsets to access Facebook without subscribing to data plans, the statement said.

'We look forward to bringing millions of Facebook users in India closer to their love for social networking by allowing them to access it anytime, anywhere on their Airtel-powered mobile phones,'

Facebook admits hiring PR firm to smear Google

Posted on 10:41 AM by Unknown

It seems like the ongoing rivalry between Facebook and Google has taken a turn for the subversive. Last night, a spokesman for the social network confirmed to the Daily Beast that Facebook paid a top PR firm to spread anti-Google stories across the media and to encourage various outlets to examine allegations that the Mountain View company was violating user privacy. The PR firm, Burson-Marsteller, even offered to help blogger Chris Soghoian write a critical op-ed piece about Social Circle -- a service that allows Gmail users to access information on so-called 'secondary connections,' or friends of their friends. Social Circle, in fact, seems to have been at the epicenter of Facebook's smear campaign. In a pitch to journalists, Burson described the tool in borderline apocalyptic terms:

'The American people must be made aware of the now immediate intrusions into their deeply personal lives Google is cataloging and broadcasting every minute of every day-without their permission.'

Soghoian thought that Burson's representatives were 'making a mountain out of a molehill,' so he decided to prod them about which company they might be working for. When Burson refused to spill the beans, Soghoian went public and published all of the e-mails sent between him and the firm. USA Today picked up on the story, before concluding that any claims of a smear campaign were unfounded. The Daily Beast's Dan Lyons, however, apparently forced Facebook's hand after confronting the company with 'evidence' of its involvement. A Facebook spokesman said the social network hired Burson to do its Nixonian dirty work for two primary reasons: it genuinely believes that Google is violating consumer privacy and it also suspects that its rival 'may be improperly using data they have scraped about Facebook users.' In other words, their actions were motivated by both 'altruistic' and self-serving agendas, though we'd be willing to bet that the latter slightly outweighed the former. Google, meanwhile, has yet to comment on the story, saying that it still needs more time to wrap its head around everything -- which might just be the most appropriate 'no comment' we've ever heard.

Microsoft's acquisition of Skype for $8.5 billion becomes official

Posted on 1:08 AM by Unknown

It was pretty much known about since last night, but Microsoft and Skype have now obliterated any lingering doubt in the matter: the Redmond-based software giant will acquire the internet telephony company for a cool $8.5 billion in cash. Xbox and Kinect support are explicitly mentioned in the announcement of this definitive agreement, as is Windows Phone integration -- both the gaming and mobile aspects being presumably key incentives for Microsoft to acquire Skype. Importantly, this purchase shouldn't affect Skypers outside of the Microsoft ecosystem, as Steve Ballmer's team promises to continue 'to invest in and support Skype clients on non-Microsoft platforms.' Skype was first sold for a relative bargain at $2.5b to eBay in 2005, who in turn sold most of it off to Silver Lake in 2009 at an overall valuation of $2.75b, and now Redmond is concluding proceedings by tripling those earlier prices and offering Skype a permanent home. A new Microsoft Skype Division will now be opened up to accommodate the newcomers, with current Skype CEO Tony Bates becoming president of that operation and reporting directly to Ballmer. The deal is expected to close by the end of this year and you can read Microskype's full announcement after the break.

Update: Microsoft has just disclosed a couple more details about the deal. It was signed last night, May 9th, though the price was finalized on April 18th. You can follow a live stream of Steve Ballmer and Tony Bates' presentation right here.

Google Music Beta to stream 20,000 songs for free, official! (updated)

Posted on 1:01 AM by Unknown

It's not quite official but there's little doubt that Google will launch its Google Music service at its big I/O event later today. While the Wall Street Journal couldn't get a Google spokesman to admit it, Peter Kafka over at All Things D got Jamie Rosenberg, Director of Android Product Management, to spill the details a bit early. Google's service will essentially mimic the music locker functionality of Amazon's Cloud service, albeit without the ability to sell songs direct to consumers. Ouch. Unfortunately, Google's plans to launch a more feature-complete service were derailed when discussions with the labels broke down. According to Rosenberg, 'A couple of the major labels were less focused on the innovative vision that we put forward, and more interested in an unreasonable and unsustainable set of business terms.' So, rather than putting the service on hold, Google will launch its music service with the ability to store up to 20,000 of your own uploaded songs for free which you can then stream over the web to your desktop or Android phone or tablet -- any device that supports Flash (don't worry iOS users, your time will come). Amazon's service, by comparison, offers just 5GB of free storage for about 1,200 songs stored at a mediocre bitrate. Google will also best Amazon with a feature that automatically creates playlists. Google expects to roll out the service to its US users within 'weeks' with Music Beta invites going out later today to Verizon Xoom owners (others will be able to sign up at music.google.com). Keep it right here because we'll be bringing you the announcement live.

Update: And it's officially official, called 'Music Beta by Google' at this point. There's a simple presentation with artists, albums, and easy playlist creation. You can manually create them, or there's a feature called 'Instant Mix' that will make you a playlist based on any single song. It'll automagically pick 25 different tracks to build a 'truly ingenious mix.' You know, kind of like another, similarly intelligent service. All of this syncs to the cloud, which means no wires needed to download anything.

But, more importantly, songs can be cached locally. You can pick any song, album, or playlist to download onto storage, at an unknown quality. It's the same pinning idea that's in the new movies feature. That and more is demonstrated in the video below.

The service is launching in beta today, allowing 20,000 songs, and it'll be free -- 'at least while it's in beta.' Also, the updated music app is available now, which will work with any music on your phone and any phone running Android 2.2 or above. To get full-featured you can request a beta and get in line, but if you happen to be reading this from I/O you're in the beta. Congrats, you lucky bums!

Simulation Flight Simulator

Posted on 12:17 AM by Unknown
Being a pilot is not easy. Pilot requires focus, a very high level of awareness, intelligence, attention, courage, determination, healthy, and of course much money for the cost of learning.

The pilot must understand about many things, ranging from physics flight, navigation, weather, aircraft engines, aircraft type, flight rules, etc. Besides the skills to make a decision very well at a critical time, as well as necessary levels of good health. Therefore, many pilots began training since a very early age, some pilots actually began a dozen years of age.

Today, become a pilot was much easier and cheaper because the computer allows us to train a large and expensive aircraft to fly through software that can be installed at home. The software called flight simulator. One of the best software of flight simulation is Microsoft flight simulator x or fsx.

With this software, we can learn and know the technology from the existing tools function on the plane until we can ride well as aircraft pilots in the real world. Starting from the take off, landing and even Flight Simulator can be auto pilot. Auto pilot is a technology that can drive their own aircraft, the technology named CDU (Control Display Unit), but the CDU technology found only in large commercial aircraft like Boeing 737, Boeing 747 and Airbus. Technology in this software is the same as the original aircraft.

Simply, this simulator allows to learn basic procedures such as using the controls in the cockpit and navigation before they enter the actual aircraft. This PC-based simulators can not fully replace the functions of these sophisticated aircraft simulators. However due to very low prices, this simulator is very interesting as a tool in the classroom. If you have a hobby of flying as a pilot in his spare time, flight simulator can also be installed at home to gain your skills.

Sony implicates Anonymous in security breach

Posted on 8:29 PM by Unknown

The company has written a letter to Congress saying the data theft came as it was defending itself against cyber-attacks

Investigators found a file implicating the 'hacktivist' group Anonymous in the security breach that led to the theft of the personal details of more than 100 million online gamers, electronics company Sony has told the US Congress.

In a letter to Congress, Sony said the data theft came at the same time it was defending itself against a cyber-attack from members of Anonymous.

Forensic experts found a file on one of the hacked systems, titled Anonymous, which contained a phrase – 'We are legion' – that is sometimes used by the hackers' collective, said Sony chairman Kazuo Hirai in the letter to members of the House of Representatives.

'What is becoming more and more evident is that Sony has been the victim of a very carefully planned, very professional, highly sophisticated criminal cyber-attack designed to steal personal and credit card information for illegal purposes,' he told the House commerce committee, who have launched an inquiry into the matter.

Hirai, chairman of the board of directors of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said Anonymous began denial-of-service attacks, which take servers down by overwhelming them with internet traffic, after the company took action against a hacker in a federal court in San Francisco.

'Just weeks before, several Sony companies had been the target of a large-scale, coordinated denial-of-service attack by the group called Anonymous,' said Hirai. 'The attacks were coordinated against Sony as a protest against Sony for exercising its rights in a civil action in the United States district court in San Francisco against a hacker.'

But he said the mass data theft was launched separately and Sony was not sure whether the two cyber-attacks were co-ordinated.

The company also admitted that it discovered a breach in its PlayStation video game network on 20 April but did not report the matter to US authorities for two days and only informed consumers on 26 April.

'Throughout the process, Sony Network Entertainment America was very concerned that announcing partial or tentative information to consumers could cause confusion and lead them to take unnecessary actions if the information was not fully corroborated by forensic evidence,' Hirai wrote.

On Tuesday the company admitted the names, email addresses and phone numbers of 25 million Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) customers were stolen in the attack, which also hit 77 million PlayStation Network gamers. Debit card records of 10,700 customers in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain were compromised in the attack.

'The Sony matter is under active investigation. It involves personnel from the FBI and the justice department who are looking into the matter,' US attorney general Eric Holder said. 'It is something we are taking extremely seriously.'

Anonymous was born out of the influential internet messageboard 4chan, a forum popular with hackers and gamers, in 2003. The group's name is a tribute to 4chan's early days, when any posting to its forums where no name was given was ascribed to Anonymous.

It came to public prominence in December after members briefly brought down MasterCard, Visa and PayPal after those companies cut off financial services to WikiLeaks.

Would Google Adsense Ever Ban You?

Posted on 8:00 PM by Unknown
Adsense publishing is such a lucrative business for so many webmasters. It is a business with a simple strategical approach; you make money as people click on the ads on your site. It sounds simple; no wonder adsense publishing is virtually the very first business that anybody who comes online will want to try.

Every business has secrets and adsense publishing is not an exception. People get banned often due to mistakes and some other causes they can’t identify. If you are already a publisher or you want to become one, don’t forget that there are “adsense TOS watch dogs” waiting to get you on their net. And once that is done, you are forced to bid goodbye to all your efforts.

Here Are Concise Tips To Avoid Being Banned By Google
• Google’s Adsense Terms of Use will stand as your judge when you are caught doing it wrong, therefore you must frequently read, understand and follow these terms and conditions.

• Make sure that your site has a Privacy Policy Page. It confirms that you are the owner of the site.

• Never click on your ads for any reason and don’t send anybody to do so for you. The use of click bots and other click generation software is also prohibited.

• Do not urge your site visitors to click on your ads, either through persuasive means, forceful means or through compensational means.

• Desist from using sites with licesnsed contents or those with contents related to porn, XXX, weapons, illegal, gambling, casino, hacking, tobacco, etc, for adsense publishing.

• Use sites with unique and high quality contents for your adsense business. This is what the search giant wants.

• Do not use auto-surf programs to get traffic or to increase your CTR.

• Update your site frequently and get rid of broken links. These are cases that can escalate with time.

• Google is against people who keep their ads in pop-ups, pop-downs, e-mail messages, etc.

• Do not make your ads invisible for any reason.

• Targeting high paying keywords with a lot of websites registered under your account can get you banned.

• Indulging in questionable traffic generation means, like spamming, etc, are serious offences.

• Finish your site first before applying for adsense. Using sites with status as “under-construction” is of no use. You will get banned immediately.

• Though people might not consider this, but you are not supposed to publicize your adsense earnings for any reason.

• Any adsense publisher must be 18 years of age or above.

There have been a lot of talks and discussions in forums and social sites about people who got banned in adsense business without any visible cause. Google made it very clear that the adsense TOS can be changed or updataed any time without prior notice to publishers.

Hence any adsense publisher must form the habit of confronting these terms periodically, in order to stay updated and to stay away from the adsense judgment ‘hammer’.
